Student Profiles in Computing and Maths

Madeleine is doing a PhD in the area of The School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences

My name is Madeleine and I am currently doing a PhD in the area of Aircraft Evacuation Modelling in the Fire Safety Engineering Group within the University of Greenwich. During my PhD, I have had the chance to work on some very high profile projects for clients including Airbus and Bombardier. While doing this research, I have also had the unique opportunity to become a part time lecturer for the Computing and Maths Department. Teaching the students has been enjoyable and extremely rewarding experience for me.

I returned to the University of Greenwich to do a PhD, after working for 2 years as a Database Analyst in London. Getting the job of a Database Analyst was assisted by the fact that I previously studied Computing Science at Greenwich for which I achieved a Batchelor of Science, First Class Honours Degree. The facilities and teaching at Greenwich were excellent and really helped me achieve something that I never thought possible. Before I did my Computing Science
Degree in Greenwich, I found it very difficult to get a good job. However this is no longer the case. Now that I have got this good foundation behind me I now feel confident that anything is possible and that the world is my oyster.
