University of Manitoba
Western Canada’s First University

Founded more than 130 years ago, and located in the heart of Canada, the University of Manitoba (UofM) is the region’s largest research-intensive and only medical doctoral university offering over 100 academic programs including graduate studies.

Our energetic and welcoming community is comprised of over 28,000 students, including graduate studies, 8,000 faculty and staff and 185,000 alumni. Ten percent of current U of M students are international, representing close to 100 countries.

Internationally recognized professors teach on two university campuses: the main Fort Garry campus, spanning over 676 acres located on the banks of the historic Red River; and the downtown Bannatyne campus, adjacent to Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre. Both campuses provide a blend of modern and historic buildings.

University of Manitoba boasts:

  • 96 Rhodes Scholars, more than any other university in Western Canada
  • Over 100 academic programs to explore such as Engineering, Business, Education, Arts, Science and more
  • More than 100 exchange programs in 30 countries—pay U of M tuition fees while studying around the world!
  • Modern 120,000 square foot single-room residence
  • #1 in the world for first-place finishes at international business competitions
  • Over 200 summer research jobs available to students each year
  • $475,000 in scholarships and awards allocated to international students

Supports for International Students
The International Centre for Students (ICS) offers programs and services to international students before and after their arrival to help ease their transition to Canada and ensure their experience is enjoyable, safe and successful.

ICS services are designed to help international students succeed academically in a Canadian university environment, adapt to and experience Canadian culture, share their international perspectives and make new friends.

Affordable Tuition
Our internationally accredited programs and award-winning researchers and instructors have a world-class reputation. With tuition fees lower than most other Canadian universities and an affordable city to call home, our students enjoy a high-quality education at a very reasonable cost.
