Cooperative Education Science and Engineering
The Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Limerick (UL) is a vibrant faculty supporting over 3500 students having some 40 academic degree programmes in Science, Engineering, Informatics and Electronics. The Faculty comprises ten academic departments with associated centers and units in addition to three world-class research institutes.
The Cooperative Education programme (or undergraduate placement) at UL is a core element of all undergraduate degrees in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. As part of the programme, all students, regardless of discipline, undertake relevant work experience normally of eight months duration. For many employers, their involvement in the programme represents the first point of contact with the University and over 700 employers visit the campus every year.
UL has one of the largest cooperative education programmes in the European Union.
Cooperative Education gives students the chance to experience a real work environment before they graduate. For many students, the opportunity to do Cooperative Education is an incentive to choose to come to UL over other universities. This placement helps students make decisions about their future career. It also allows an employer to see students at work and assess them as potential employees.
