Aeronautical Engineering

The Honours Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree programme in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Limerick (UL) provides a gateway into the hugely exciting aerospace industry. This elite course is one of the most respected in Europe, and is supported by outstanding facilities including wind tunnels and composites manufacturing equipment.

The course is accredited by Engineers Ireland and is the only NFQ Level 8 degree course in Aeronautical Engineering in the Republic of Ireland. Through international agreement with Engineers Ireland, the course is recognised worldwide as satisfying the educational requirements for Chartered Engineering Status.

On completion of the B.E. course, students can choose to study for a fifth year to obtain an M.Eng. in Aeronautical Engineering.

The Masters course, the MEng in Aeronautical Engineering is a one-year taught Masters Degree. This course is the one of its kind in the state providing training in advanced topics in Aeronautical Engineering. The programme was developed in response to the needs of the aerospace sector, which requires graduates with advanced skills in aeronautical design, analysis and testing. The course also satisfies the Engineers Ireland requirement that a Master's degree in an engineering discipline will be the minimum educational standard for Chartered Engineer status for students graduating in 2013.

Limerick City
The third largest city in the Republic of Ireland, Limerick was founded by the Vikings over a thousand years ago. Limerick City (population 80,000) is a most lively, interesting and attractive place to live and study. The city is magnificently sited on one of Europe’s finest rivers, the Shannon. The proximity of Shannon International Airport ensures that the Region’s important trade links with the global market-place are maintained. Limerick offers an unequalled base from which to explore the Southwest and West of Ireland.

‘Limerick City is cheerfully urban…and has historic and cultural attractions in plenty to keep the visitors happily occupied…It’s central streets buzz with life and a busy shopping scene. Fine museums and galleries, and a thriving restaurant and pub-culture, have enhanced Limerick’s already warm heart’
