The Politecnico di Milano was established in 1863, as an institution of higher education in engineering (and later in civil architecture) on initiative of academicians and scholars, local authorities, financial world, entrepreneurs and cultural associations, people who saw technological and scientific progress as a decisive factor in the Country’s economic and social evolution.
The Politecnico di Milano is located in the most important economic area in Italy, overlooking a beautiful territory, dense of natural and historical resources, and cultural heritage. The European capital of fashion, design and style, Milan, is preparing to host the EXPO 2015.
With 7 campuses and more than 38,000 students enrolled, it is the largest school of engineering and architecture in the Country and the only school of architecture and design in Lombardy.
Studying at the Politecnico di Milano means experiencing an academic environment that devotes great attention to research, from conceiving innovations at the edge of knowledge, to prototype applications, from technology transfer to patenting.
Today the drive for internationalization has led the Politecnico di Milano to take part in the European and global network of the major technical universities, while the participation of foreign students in programs that include its educational offer is ever-increasing.
The Politecnico di Milano is today recognized as one of the top 15 technical universities in Europe (The Times ranking 2009) and takes part in major negotiating and exchange tables with the corresponding European universities.
