The Department of Chemistry offers the exciting opportunity to join a large and active research school in an attractive campus university with a well-founded reputation for the high standards of its chemistry. Our excellence in research has been recognised in the award of a Grade 5 rating in the Research Assessment Exercise (1 being a low rating, 5 being high). Offering research degree courses (PhD, MPhil and MSc) in a wide variety of areas of chemistry, as well as taught Masters courses, all of which are complemented by transferable skills, our students leave York and go on to successful careers in industry, academia, research and other fields.
The Chemistry Department postgraduate school also has an excellent social-life, with a range of events and activities for all. We also uniquely host an International Club where our overseas students can meet, relax and have fun on a regular basis. The University itself also offers an Overseas Students Association and has many clubs and societies where you can meet like-minded people.
The University of York has been recognised as one of the leading universities in the UK. Its main campus is set in an attractive 200-acre landscaped park, well known for its lake and wildfowl. Here the colleges and academic buildings are on a level site within walking distance of each other, providing a safe and secure environment.
The proximity of the campus to the historic city of York makes the University a popular choice and provides a pleasant working and residential setting. York city centre itself is diverse with ancient and medieval history sitting comfortably in a vibrant shopping and social scene.
The beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire and the east coast are less than an hour’s drive from York. London and Edinburgh are on the direct rail link through York, and the University has easy access to a number of regional airports in the north of England.
