The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science has existed from the earliest days of the University of Kent and is part of the Faculty of Sciences. Kent has an excellent postgraduate employability record: 97.6% of our postgraduate students who graduated in 2007 found a job or further study opportunity within six months.

Postgraduate Diploma in Actuarial Science
This 9 month, full-time taught course enables graduates students to acquire the core skills and knowledge required by all actuaries. The course is accredited by the UK Actuarial Profession and offers the opportunity to gain exemptions from 8 subjects (CT1 – CT8) within the Core Technical stage of the examinations of the UK Actuarial Profession.
MSc in Applied Actuarial Science
Designed for students who already have knowledge of the fundamentals of Actuarial Science, this 12 month, full-time course provides the opportunity to gain exemptions from subjects CA1, CA3, ST2, ST4 ST5 and ST6 within the Core Applications and Specialist Technical stages of the examinations of the UK Actuarial Profession. We are seeking to extend our accreditation to include the new optional subjects ST7, ST8 and ST9 which are also being taught from September 2009.
Students can also choose an optional Modelling module which prepares them for CA2.
MSc in Finance, Investment and Risk
This unique programme provides the essential knowledge base in quantitative finance, investment analysis and portfolio management with financial risk analysis playing an important role.
This flexible qualification opens up your career opportunities in investment banks, financial and management consultancies, auditing firms, risk management departments of financial institutions and government departments.
Core modules : Corporate Finance; Investment Analysis; Financial Reporting and Analysis; Quantitative Methods for Finance; Financial Risk Management.
In addition you can select from a range of optional modules which focus on specific areas of finance, investment, risk, insurance, business strategy and ethics.
MSc Mathematics and its Applications
If you love mathematics, want to learn more and like to find out about the wider relevance and application of what you are learning, then this MSc is for you.
The programme has been designed for recent honours graduates seeking to enhance their employability or thinking of doing a PhD but wanting an extra year, as well as for teachers of mathematics in schools wanting to develop their mathematical knowledge, communication and project design skills.
The MSc consists of six taught modules from a list of options, a Mathematical Inquiry and Communication module and a dissertation.
The Mathematics Group is highly qualified to lead your adventure in mathematics. In the last Research Assessment Exercise, 95% of mathematics research submitted was rated at International Quality or above.
MSc in Statistics
The one-year MSc programme in Statistics at Kent, which is accredited by the Royal Statistical Society, is a well-established programme that can help to launch you on a career in statistics or provide a firm foundation for a subsequent PhD.
The Statistics Group at Kent as 12 full time academic staff, making it one of the larger academic statistics groups in the UK. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise, Kent was ranked 8th in the UK for statistics. There is also a thriving group of research students.
