Description
This is a one-year programme (or two years part time) comprising 12 taught modules followed by a six-month industry placement or research project. This MSc is run with the involvement of a consortium of European partners, and co-ordinated at Reading. There are two intakes per year, in February and in October.
Programme Content: The 12 taught modules (each module runs as an intensive week long course) in the first semester comprise a core component and options which lead to one of the following six specialisations:
- High Performance Computing and Communication
- Electronic Commerce
- Software Engineering and HCI
- Advanced Cybernetics
- Data Communications and Networking
- Computational Sciences
The second semester consists either of an industrial placement in a European company or a research project at an academic institution.
This course aims to provide training for Honours graduates or equivalent whose career aims include Network Centred Computing in a broad sense with focus being provided through different in-depth streams in the above-mentioned areas. The objectives are to give students broad coverage of the technological and scientific subjects required to underpin all careers in the IT field in general, providing in-depth study and training encompassing state of the art principles and techniques in the chosen specialist stream, and equipping students with research and development skills through a substantial research or R & D project with industrial and/or academic significance.
