Portsmouth is an ideal part of the UK to study both geological and environmental sciences. The area has possible the widest variety of marine and terrestrial habitats in the country and a wide range of geological sites, not to mention famous fossil sites in the Isle of Wight and the World Heritage Site on the Dorset coast. Many of these sites are used for fieldwork exercises, student project work and research. Students also undertake international fieldwork that may take them to Cyprus, Spain, Southern Italy, France, Germany and Austria.
