“I was initially attracted to the BSc Hydrography course at the University of Plymouth due to its marine background - particularly its historic association with seabed mapping. The Navy has its Hydrography Department based in Plymouth, with data processing occuring at the Hydrography Office, Taunton.
Plymouth is very well equipped for marine courses and is in an ideal coastal situation. I have fully utlilised the University’s survey vessel ‘Catfish’, land survey equipment and positioning systems (DGPS).
The course has proved to be very vocational and the academic staff are enthusiastic, supportive, well qualified and in touch with industry - which has led to some excellent connections with potential employers. I’ve had two job offers so far, and I haven’t even graduated yet!”
John Gunn, stage 3 BSc Hydrography student.
