University of Chester

In the Faculty of Applied and Health Sciences at the University of Chester you will find new and exciting approaches to the teaching of Masters programmes with traditional values and high educational standards. Our Department of Biological Sciences, Sport and Exercise Sciences, Computer Science and Mathematics are complemented by centres of excellence in Exercise and Nutrition Science and Public Health. We teach Masters programmes in many different specialist areas using the latest on-line techniques and plenty of face-to-face contact with expert staff. Our programmes are offered on a full-time or part-time basis to suit your requirements.

We have an international reputation for preventative health and information management. While several of our programmes are taught overseas, all our UK programmes are delivered on the beautiful Chester campus of the University. The Chester campus is just a short walk from the historic city centre of Chester. Chester is one of the England’s most popular tourist destinations. With ancient city walls and a history dating back to Roman times it also has one of the best city centre shopping areas in the UK. Chester is a small, safe and friendly city. It is the perfect place for your introduction to living in the UK.

The University campus is also compact and friendly. There are excellent teaching, study and recreational facilities. The modern, computerised library houses approximately 300,000 books, but the most important part of the library service is the collection of electronic books, journals and databases. Through the virtual library students have access to thousands of primary learning sources, including journal articles, for download to any networked computer.  The campus has various types of student accommodation and restaurants. A wide range of sports facilities is available including a swimming pool and fitness suite. The fitness suite is not only used for the recreation of students and staff, but also as a teaching area for our MSc in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation. Cardiac patients from the nearby Countess of Chester Hospital undertake their rehabilitation programme in our fitness suite and students can actively participate in the treatment programmes as part of their course.

The Faculty offers MSc programmes in all its departments. We specialise in Public Health, Well-being, Sport and Exercise, Nutrition, Information and Project Management and Mathematics. Under the heading ‘Well-being’, we have MSc programmes in Biomedical Sciences, Diabetes Management, Weight Management, Cardiovascular Rehabilitation, Sports Science and Exercise and Nutrition. Our MSc Sports Science programme has specialist areas in Psychology, Biomechanics or Physiology. The Faculty is the only recognised centre in the North West of England for the training of Dietitians and therefore we are the perfect place to take your higher studies in our Nutrition-related programmes. We have good working relationships with most of the Hospitals in the North West region. We have excellently well-equipped laboratories including state of the art metabolic and body composition analysers.

Our Departments of Computer Science and Mathematics specialise in small group teaching. All staff have good relationships with their students to make sure each student reaches their full potential. Our new programme in Project Management offers professional qualification through PRINCE 2 project management. This international qualification is the gold standard in project management world-wide. The MSc in Information Systems has specialist pathways in Internet Technology and e-Business and one for Education Professionals.

Several of our programmes are taught outside the UK. The MSc in Exercise and Nutrition Science is taught in Dublin. The Postgraduate Certificate in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation is taught in Mumbai with the Asian Heart Institute and Information Systems will be taught in Bahrain from 2009. We also offer English language instruction through our partners at English in Chester (e-mail: study@english-in-chester.co.uk)
