Mathematics courses in Canada

Mathematics is a well respected degree and mathematics graduates are extremely employable. Not only are mathematicians numerate but the nature of their study means they can think logically, can analyse complex problems and provide solutions to these problems, and are highly computer literate.

Universities across Canada offer a number of mathematics degrees. Whilst most stick to the traditional Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Statistics, some, such as Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, offer the Bachelor of Mathematics degree, more commonly known as the B.Math. The argument for this is that the study of mathematics is completely different from the field of science.

Whether you choose to take the BSc or the B.Math, the standards of Canadian universities is high. You can opt to take either a general degree program in Mathematics, lasting 3 years, or you can take the honours degree program, reserved for outstanding students and lasting 4 years. Whilst the general program is less theoretical than the honours program, it remains an intensive course, providing the foundations for either graduate study or a number of careers.
