The State University of New York (SUNY) is the largest public university system in the USA. The State University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) is the State University’s only institute of technology. The college is located on more than 800 acres in Marcy, N.Y., about four hours from New York City. Our 3,000 students are enrolled in graduate and undergraduate degree programs in technology, professional studies, and the liberal arts. Undergraduate and Graduate degree programs
Undergraduate degree majors/programs include: accounting, applied computing, applied mathematics, applied mathematics/electrical engineering, business, civil engineering technology, communication & information design, computer engineering technology, computer & information science, computer information systems, criminal justice, electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, finance, general studies, health information management, health services management, industrial engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, nursing, psychology, sociology, and telecommunications.
Graduate degree programs offered at SUNYIT include: the master of business administration in technology management, master of business administration in health services management; master of science degree programs in accountancy, advanced technology, applied sociology, computer & information science, health services administration, information design and technology, and telecommunications (networking); and master of science programs in nursing: adult nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner, gerontological nurse practitioner, nursing administration, and nursing education. Accelerated BS/MS options are available in computer science, nursing, and telecommunications.
Faculty Interaction
With an average class size of 18 and a faculty student ratio of 17:1, faculty (not teaching assistants) are accessible and willing to work individually with students. Small classes mean hands-on experience with advanced facilities. Fulbright Scholars, Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching recipients, Distinguished Service Professors challenge students to reach high academic standards.
Residential Life and Housing
SUNYIT offers townhouse-style apartments that accommodate four students in single or double bedrooms. Each apartment is completely furnished and includes a living room, bedrooms, bathroom and storage space. Included are a microwave and refrigerator, high speed Internet connection, private phone service and cable TV. Wireless Internet access is available across the entire campus. Each residential complex offers access to free laundry facilities, study and recreational lounges, and a computer lab.
Scholarships and Financial Assistance
Scholarships are available to qualified international freshmen. Graduate students are eligible to be considered for residential scholarships, and assistantships. Early application is encouraged for students wishing to be considered for scholarships, and assistantships.
Admissions Requirements
Admission to SUNYIT is competitive. To ensure completion of the admission process and securing of an F-1 visa early application is encouraged. Admission to SUNYIT is based on academic qualifications, proof of financial support, recommendation letter(s), and English language proficiency as determined by the TOEFL and IELTS. Standardized tests such as the SAT or ACT may be required for freshmen applications. Graduate applicants are required to submit the GRE or GMAT, and recommendation letter(s) depending on program requirements.
International Student Services
The Office of International Student Services provides immigration services, initial and on-going orientation programs and general support to the international population. Through our immigration services we help students maintain their status in compliance with immigration regulations and apply for the immigration benefits for which they are eligible. Workshops are offered throughout the semester on topics relating to living and working in the United States. We encourage our current students who are interested in developing skills and experience in full and part-time off campus work related to their studies to participate in Curricular Practical Training and Optional Practical Training.
