The College of Optics & Photonics is a graduate college at the University of Central Florida for optical science and engineering education, and research.

The College of Optics & Photonics is recognized as one of the top independent optics academic departments in the nation. The College offers interdisciplinary graduate programs leading to MS and Ph.D.degrees in Optics, CREOL, the Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers, and FPCE, the Florida Photonics Center of Excellent, are research centers within the college.

The College of Optics & Photonics has grown to an internationally recognized institute with 41 faculty members, 49 research scientists and 144 graduate students with research activities covering all aspects of optics, Photonics and lasers.

Admissions


Degree programs are intended for students with backgrounds in optics, electrical and physics, mechanical engineering, material science and engineering, chemistry, math and related fields. Admissions requirements for the MS program are a GPA of 3.5 (A=4.0) and a competitive GRE score on the qualitative and verbal portions. Completion of the analytical portion is highly recommended. For the Ph.D.program,a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the MS program and a competitive GRE score is required. Applications submitted after February 1st may not be considered for fellowship. The International application deadline is January 15th and the general admission deadline is July 15.

Research Areas

The College of Optics and Photonics’ faculty and research staff perform research using state of the art equipment and facilities in the 82,000 sq.ft. building on campus.Their research activities span the spectrum from basic science to prototype development, and they pursue joint research projects with industry, academia, and government laboratories. These researchers/teachers are always seeking new opportunities to work with industry to expose students to the industrial environment and to aid in technology transfer.
